Manhattan Project for a Nuclear-Free World will hold a rally to raise awareness on the discharge of radioactive wastewater into our environment on a global scale.
In Japan, TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) plans to release 350 million gallons (1.3 million metric tons) of radioactive water from the crippled nuclear power plant in Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean, starting in the spring of 2023. This will continue for more than 30 years and the radioactivity could reach the western shore of the United States.
Just 24 miles north of Manhattan, Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant will dump large amounts of radioactive water into the Hudson River in the summer of 2023. This water could be contaminated as it is coming from the nuclear spent fuel cooling pool. Any amount is dangerous.
Improper disposal of radioactive material into the environment can impact humans, animals, plants, and all living things. Radioactive isotopes could be incorporated into living cells, adding to human health risks. We must stand in solidarity against this environmental injustice!
