History of the hibakusha movement
(UN side event during 3MSP TPNW)
March 5, 2025

At this event, we focused on the history of anti-nuclear movements started by hibakushas in the 1950s, including founding members of Nihon Hidankyo. We examined their advocacy efforts and the struggle that led to the establishment of the Hibakusha Assistant Law of 1994. We also highlighted the ongoing challenges facing nuclear affected communities, and the role of younger generations in achieving a nuclear-free world.
